| dc.description.abstract | Theconceptofemployeemotivationhasbeenaperennialsubjectof debateamongscholars.Motivationdoesaffectandcontinuesto affectemployeeperformanceinorganizationsthatleadstolow performance.Thispaperseekstoexamineselectedmotivational issuesthataffectemployeeperformanceintheKenyancivilservice. Motivationplaysacriticalroleintheoverallperformanceandgrowth oforganizations.Mostoftheemployeesinthecivilserviceexhibit lowmotivationtocertainextentcontributestotheminimal performance.ThegovernmentofKenyathroughitsministriessince theearly1990’shascomeupwithstrategiestowardsperformance improvement.
