AN ANDROID MOBILE APPLICATION FOR KABARAK UNIVERSITY
Abstract
The proposed online mobile application (Kabarak Varsity) is engineered to provide a dynamic and
engaging experience for the smart phone mobile users. The proposed development of a mobile
phone app by the Computer Science department would serve many perceived needs across the
campus. Students require additional ways to keep in touch while on the go with campus events,
news alert, accessing the results, and the library. It will also enable teaching and non-teaching
staff that are on leave to get up-to date information and access to events, news, the academic
calendar, their emails, the portals and library database.
There are several drawbacks in our current system which is either manual or web based with a no
major platform which can be used by various users to access different data. This is a major
drawback for students and the faculty staff who are inside and outside the campus. In order to
get information on the current system, one needs to access the University website which requires
several web tools and a high bandwidth. It is also drawback for new internet users who would
require training to get the required information.
The proposed application (KABARAK VARSITY) is an automation system which will enable the
University to store program details and admission criteria for all the schools. This will benefit
several users. For example a prospective student will apply simply and quickly without going
through the hassle of the Website. It will also ease the needs of staff and students who will be
able to renew their books by simply clicking an icon on the mobile application. It will also help the
marketing of The University abroad as it will enable an Android user to know the International
Conference Dates.
